start gpsd, then make sure it reads your incoming gps data. cgps or xgps works as expected:

The line above wont update. Never. No more lines. Shared memory will never change at all.

Besides: I have to first start gpsd, then setserial, then reinitialize gps. All other variants fail, because gpsd seems to reset bauddate to something inappropriate.
