Resume

I have 2.5 years experience as a Systems Administrator & Software Developer for my own business called Public Linux LLC (http://www.publiclinux.net). I live in Birmingham, UK and do all of my work from home.

My main duties as Software Developer involves developing in-house software for use by both our customers and other members of staff. This includes programs for Systems Administration, Accounting, handling Customer records as well as Software to allow our Customers to access the Internet Services that we provide.

My other duties as Software Developer involve developing Software for Commercial release. The main Application that I have developed is called Public Linux AdminWare (a FREE Demo is available from our website) written in Perl/Tk. We have just released Version 4.1 in the states, and are currently marketing AdminWare to Software Publishers.

My duties as Systems Administrator involve making daily backups, testing recovery plans, analysing log files, monitoring user activity, adding/deleting accounts, writing shell scripts to automate tasks, providing support to users and trouble shooting any problems.

Currently, I use the following languages for Programming:

Perl
Perl/Tk
Tcl/Tk
C (and sometimes C++)
Shell Scripting

The bulk of my programming is done using Perl.

I also enjoy writing Open Source Software, and have had 3 published so far (also available for FREE download on our website www.publiclinux.net).

Public Linux does not currently generate enough income for myself and my Business Partner. So I am looking for a long term position in the Birmingham, UK area in the following roles:

UNIX/Linux Systems Administrator
Software Developer (Perl, Perl/Tk, Tcl/Tk, C)
Software Tester

Along with my experience with Public Linux, I also have 2 months experience as a Project Engineer with a FREE Unix Shell Provider running on FreeBSD, OpenBSD and Linux. My duties involved the day-to-day Administration of the servers, and writing Administration Software in Perl.

As well as running Public Linux, I am also a Systems Administrator (voluntary) for htt://rarepenguin.thebbs.org a Free Linux Shell Provider. My role within the company mostly involves security analysis and generally keeping an eye on things, eg: checking log files, processes, process history, command history, disk usage.

If you are interested in discussing any of the roles mentioned above for the Birmingham, UK area then please email me at -email is unavailable- to discuss things further.
