python-sndfile - Summary
This group is not part of the GNU Project.
libsndfile (http://www.mega-nerd.com/libsndfile) is a de-facto standard C library for reading and writing sampled sound data on *nix systems.
python-sndfile ports this functionality on several abstraction levels to the python programming language, hopefully replacing the build-in wave module.
development status
python-sndfile currently implements the libsndfile API. A more pythonic interface leaning towards the build-in wave module is part of the next release.
requirements
- Python (>= 2.4)
- Python Numeric (alias NumPy)
- libsndfile (>= 1.0.12)
- SWIG (>= 1.3.17; build only)

Just released v0.1.
This offers a (almost) 1:1 wrap from the C library to python.
Exceptions include that return values are returned as function return value and not by pointers to python objects in the function argument list.
i.e.
data = sf_read_float(...)
instead of:
sf_read_float(..., data)
