Xouvert - Summary
This group is not part of the GNU Project.
Xouvert is a development branch of the Xfree86 source tree. It's purpose is to provide wide testing and integration for third party patches, and to test and stabilize innovative new ideas for submission to the main Xfree86 branch.
We are dedicated to complete openness in our developement process, Linus-style, and to the practice of release early, release often.
We plan to encourage vendors to take a greater interest in X11 support for their products, by incorporating support for new video cards in a timely way.
Individual components, including video drivers, will be released separately on a daily basis. Every six months there will be a major release of Xouvert as a whole, incorporating all the mini-releases of the separate components, and larger scale architectural work.
Xouvert is named after the ancient Babylonian goddess of open windows, wooden digging implements, and moonlight. A notorious ritual of some of the higher levels of Freemasonry have kept her memory alive until now. Xouvert, awake!
Xouvert is currently the work of Jonathan Walther, William Lahti, and RJ Bergero. Everyone is welcome to join our mailing list, donate code, and create their own branches of Xouvert. We are using arch instead of CVS as our revision system. We are excited about the possibilities arch opens up for freer collaboration and more diverse experiments.
