sigh.  i see that all of your earlier responses got filed as spam, and i didn't notice at the time because i had such a huge amount of spam to check for false positives after returning from vacation around that time.

i'm very sorry for the inconvenience -- i've now whitelisted "savannah.*@gnu.org", and i'll pay more careful attention to my spam folder.

i'll re-register.

very embarassed,
paul fox

Hi,

We did not get a response from you, so we deleted your project from the pending queue.

If you would still like to have your project hosted at Savannah, please register it again.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgment of your earlier registration will direct
you to the proper location where you can re-register your project.

Regards.

Hi,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah?
If not, please tell us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards.

Hi,
I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

At first, "Linux" is just a kernel of a more complex system that we like to refer to as GNU/Linux, to emphasize the ideals of the Free Software movement.

Would you mind changing references to Linux as an OS to GNU/Linux?

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html.

At second, if you don't want to host any source code on our platform we can approve your project and you can submit your (support) request for your mailing lists.

But if, at any time, you want to use Savannah also for your project hosting, please contact us again so that we can review your whole source code.

Would you agree with us?

Regards,

Sebastian Wieseler <kickino>

######### REGISTRATION ADMINISTRATION #########

While this item will be useful to track the registration process, approving or discarding the registration must be done using the specific "Group Administration" page, accessible only to site administrators, effectively logged as site administrators (superuser):

######### REGISTRATION DETAILS #########

Full Name:
----------
  vile, a vi-compatible text editor

System Group Name:
-----------------
  vile

Type:
-----
  non-GNU software & documentation

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Description:
------------
this project is mature -- it is the vi-compatible text editor known as "vile".  vile is GPL'ed, and included in current debian releases as "free".

what vile needs is better mailing list support.  our lists are low traffic (announcements, the occasional bug report, the occasional user help request) and a place to keep a placeholder web page.  these two things exist now, hosted on a server in my basement, but the lists are based on ezmlm and are very clunky, and i really can't see doing the upgrades necessary to turn them into Mailman while still keeping them in my home.

as for the web page, the current web page lives at http://www.vile.cx -- we currently have the vile.cx domain gratis, from the Christmas Islands, but that could change any time.  and losing it would not be a big loss -- having vile hosted on a well-known site such as nongnu.org would be much more valuable.

software development would probably continue to be done "off-site", though that's not my call.  my current involvement in the project (though i'm the original author) is more administrative.

the code currently lives (and will probably remain) here, if you want to see it:
  http://invisible-island.net/vile/vile.html

Other Software Required:
------------------------
none.  vile runs on any vanilla linux or unix system.  (it also runs on VMS, Win32, DOS, and probably others.)
