The aim of the project is to provide or exceed the functionalities available in commectial GLB hardware.
DNS indirection.
The DNS server outputs records which have a short time to live. This means that when a client performs a DNS query for a hostname the query will be handled by the load balancing device which will decide on the most appropriate host (based on load/availability/network proximity) and direct the client to that host. Providing this form of indirection is the initial aim of indigo.
The ISC Bind server will be used for this with it's SDB interface.
The middle layer will be a distributed database (RDBMS or bespoke) of system load/availability information
The end layer will be a TCP/IP host daemon outputting load information
License GNU General Public License v2 or later
Development Status: 1 - Planning
