Whammer - Summary
This group is not part of the GNU Project.
A free code for calculating 1D water hammer in pipe systems using the Method of Characteristics. The code includes a variety of different friction models from steady/quasi-steady to various unsteady friction models.
Further, the code includes both the Discrete Gas Cavity model as well as the Discrete Vapour Cavity Model for handling column separation/cavitation.
In its present form the code handles an upstream reservoir and a downstream valve as boundary conditions, with a a declined straight pipe with uniform diameter in between.
The code is described in a recent paper by the code authors: Rune Kjerrumgaard Jensen,Jesper Kær Larsen, Kasper Lindgren Lassen, Matthias Mandø and Anders Andreasen, "Implementation and Validation of a Free Open Source
1D Water Hammer Code", Fluids, DOI:10.3390/fluids3030064
available at: http://www.mdpi.com/2311-5521/3/3/64
Please cite this paper if the code is used in publications.
The code runs in Matlab/Octave under MS Windows and has been tested in Octave on (Ubuntu) GNU/Linux. To get the code please follow the description for Subversion access.
