Yes, the first backup is very slow. All following ones are much much faster.
You should read chapter 5 of the pdf documentation to understand what's going on. There are to pdf files: one in English and one in German.

Btw, backup is something fundamentally important. So you should understand what your backup tool is doing and also check if restore works.

just my 2 cents...

Hi,
you can generate a configuration file with:

storeBackup.pl -g stbu.conf

But probably the easiest way to solve your problem is not to save sackets (which mostly makes no sense at all):

 do not save the specified types of files, allowed: Sbcfpl
# S - file is a socket
# b - file is a block special file
# c - file is a character special file
# f - file is a plain file
# p - file is a named pipe
# l - file is a symbolic link
# Spbc can only be backed up if GNU copy is available.
;exceptTypes=

so,
exceptTypes=Sbc
or
--exceptTypes Sbc
should do that (with linux, it also makes no sense to backup 'bc').

Hi,
if you look into your configuration file, you can see the following comment:

# Activate this option if your system's cp is a full-featured GNU
# version. In this case you will be able to also backup several
# special file types like sockets.
# Possible values are 'yes' and 'no'. Default is 'no'
cpIsGnu=yes

Did you try
cpIsGnu = yes

or on the command line

--cpIsGnu?

storeBackup uses the command 'cp -a' to copy sockets. Your KDE (=linux?) should use gnu-cp, and it should work with your Apple NFS Server - but I don't know.
Please try.
