Do we still want multiple public directories (other than apt root and download directory) ?

If not, then the fix to this bug report is simple: don't call string.split or string.strip on the 'root' value in circle.py:set_roots and when reading File_entry values.
And perhaps traverse symlinks-to-directories if we don't already, so that the essential functionality of multiple 'root' values is still available.

Otherwise, .config (i.e. .circle/configuration) ought to have a 'roots' entry that's a list of files, rather than a single string that we split on commas and strip spaces from.

Doing this properly would also involve changing the widget set used to convey & edit this information. Note that this is already slightly broken even if you don't care about commas & spaces:
clicking the "select" button gets rid of all existing entries.
