Most of how to do this is covered in the new manual (>=1.0.17).  It requires getting a tree doing a lot of things by hand.  It would still be nice to be able to do things without having to look at full project trees, but that would require understanding the differences to the same degree that the --paths option does.  Difficult, but not insurmountable.

It would be nice to have a simple way to group a bunch of changesets together, so that you can refer to it as one patch.  If the patches are not sequential, you would have to worry about conflicting patches.  That would make it easier to create single patch after making a bunch of pathes.

Similarly, it would be nice to be able to, ex post facto, split a single patch into multiple patches, so you can split up unrelated functionality.
