We indeed lack such documentation.

I know that at least some GM45 Thinkpads have 8MiB flash chip size with AMT and 4MiB without.

For the X60 its flash chip is 2MiB and it's unlikely to ever be shipped with a 16MiB flash chip unless some vendors modify the laptops to increase the flash chip size.

As far as I am aware, (most) mainboards only come in one sized flash chip.  As there are gnuboot images that correspond to the same board just with a different sized flash chip, someone needs to document what these are for.  For example, one could modify the mainboard to swap out the flash chip for a bigger one, but this is not a stock standard configuration.  Please consider marking the default sized images as such in the release, as well as documentation on how to use the bigger images.
