This project is not part of the GNU Project.

bakonf is a tool designed to make backups of the configuration files of a GNU/Linux or Unix-like system. Its aim is to use various methods in order to reduce the size of the backup to a reasonable minimum, in order to be useful for remote/unattended servers.

It is usable on any Unix-like system which has python 2.4 or newer. See the user manual for more information.

Note that is tool is very simple and can be replaced by tar, cpio or any other archive utility.

Wrong Git tag r0.4.1, will be replaced by v0.4.1

I just realized the Git repository has the tag r0.4.1 wrongly pointing at the r0.5 tag. I will remove from the repository this tag and create a new one v0.4.1 in the right place (also, in the future, tags will be named with prefix v).

Major features: now works on any Unix-like system (dropped rpm-4.1 requirement), updated user manual, man page. Tested on RedHat Linux 8.0 and FreeBSD 4.6 (but many config files don't apply there).
