Decentralized and Universal File System for Hurd - Summary
This group is not part of the GNU Project.
DUFS is a distributed file system for GNU/Hurd. Since Hurd is based upon GNU/Mach, which is a well-designed micro-kernel with inherent support for a distributed system, a distributed file system can be the first yet significant step.
Generally speaking, it'll provide 2 functions: file interface and directory service. It's expected to be completely decentralized with high reliability and security. Some cutting-edge technologies such as "Recovery-Oriented Computing" and "Recursive Recovery" can be applied or experiented. Cache consistency is also an essential issue.
Besides, it should adapt well to both local area high-throughput networks and wide area networks.
It may finally incorporate FTPFS and provide a uniform entry to various functions like Email and Web browsing.
