Folks, the release notes mention:

If there are no requests to maintain
-atfile, it will be removed in the future.

This is a request to maintain it: I use it almost daily while
editing a reply (repl) using vim. Sometimes I need to pull
in the raw mail headers because I need to explain something
about them; more often I'm reponding to text with particular
formatting that doesn't turn out well when handled by the nmh
formatting software, so I just pull in the raw message and
format the quoting manually in those cases.

Having the "@" filename makes it really easy to pull in the
message currently being replied to, even when, in another
window, I've moved on to look at something else (so `mhpath cur`
won't give the right message any more).

By the way, this is a good time to say THANK YOU for maintaining
this software. I've been using MH or nmh for 27 years (yikes!),
have configured it out the wazoo and written aliases and little
wrapper scripts for frequently-performed actions, and at this
point, it's like an extension of my body. My productivity
depends on it. So, THANK YOU!!!

Anne Bennett.
