JackMaster"

I noticed a few problems that must be fixed before approval:

Add Licence and Copyright information to all your non trivial files,
that include plain text documentation (INSTALL, README, TODO), and
automake (And friends) input, (.ac, .am).

Ethier include the licensing information inside jackmaster16x16.xpm
(As a comment) or put a note in README stating the copyright holder,
copyright years and licence of that image.

There is no configure.ac? did you wrote configure.in directly?.

If there is configure.ac, please include it along with program (In
both tarball and reposotrory) to make easy the modification, if
configure.in is hand-written then please add the licencing information
to it.

The C source have another issues:

This notice is of my concern: "Copyright (C) 1998-2000 Peter Alm,
Mikael Alm, Olle Hallnas, Thomas Nilsson and 4Front Technologies"

First, because it uses year ranges, GNU adivces againsting year
ranges, please state each Copyright year.

Second, All those persons have the copyright for all those years?.  If
not please put state the copyright years for each author individually,
in example:

Copyright (C) 1998, 1999 Foo
Copyright (C) 1999, 2000, 2001 Bar
Copyright (C)

Third, the idea of a lending/borrowing is exclusive for physical
objects, don't apply for software since you don't "borrow" it, the
author still have his copy, and you have your own copy too, fully
independient and unaffected.  We don't want to spead such fallacy, is
similar to the (mis)explanion of the intellectual "property".

Correct all pointed issues and attach an updated tarball to this
tracker

Once project is approved you may upload tarballs in both bzip2 and xz
(LZMA) if you want to.  I think is silly to use an non-widespread
format like LZMA instead of a de facto one like bzip2 for small
things, such as this (Tarball is bellow 50 KiB with bz2), that is up
to you anyway :).

Regards.

FYI ... Unfortunately, pzip is not entirely free software, at least the last time I looked: it includes the nonfree code to read rar files.

I expect it would be possible to strip that out and get a free program that can read 7z files, but given
that the author of 7z (Igor Pavlov) was one of the primary people behind the xz format, I don't see any great reason to do so.

Anyway, thanks for uploading the .tar.bz2 :).

Best,
Karl

Not true. From http://p7zip.sourceforge.net/ :
"
p7zip is a port of 7za.exe for POSIX systems like Unix (Linux, Solaris, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, Cygwin, AIX, ...), MacOS X and also for BeOS and Amiga.
"
There even is a Debian Package (otherwise, i wouldn't have used it).

Hopefully, that'll change...

However, i have uploaded

http://69b.org/web69/dl/dev_jackmaster-0.0.2.tar.bz2

and also attached it.

Greetings

JackMaster"

Hi,

Sorry for the slow response.

>I'm moving because of the new censorship policy on sf.net (u know:
>cuba, iran....). Hope you make sure that free software remains free.

Of course!, that is our propose.

7z is free software itself, but it only runs in propiertary platforms,
so we can't use the program in a fully free enviroment.

I don't know of a free program for GNU/Linux capable of editing .7z
files, anyway if it exist is not widely widespread.

Please, if you are still interested in hosting the projct at savannah
compress it in some de facto standard format, like tar+gzip or
tar+bzip2 and attach it to the tracker
(https://savannah.gnu.org/task/?10138#attached) so we can continue
with the registration processes.

There is a free implementation of the LZMA compression algorithm
(http://tukaani.org/xz/), wich runs on GNU/Linux, but it uses it own
format (.lzma), incompatible with 7z, when project is approved you may
distribute it in this format if you want, should have about the same
compression quality and speed as 7z.  However, I strongly encourage
you to keep both an gzip (Or bzip2) version of the tarball along with
a lzma one and let the user download what they want, this is because
the .lzma format is not as widespread as gzip or bzip2, and is not
installed by default by most GNU/Linux distributions.

If you are no longer interested in Savannah please let us know, we
won't bite and will make us gain time, you have 2 weeks to confirm,
else I will delete the submission.

Regards.
