Hello Alex and Mario,

thank you for your work :-)

I added the copyright notice to the Makefile where I forgot it.

I am very sorry but I changed a lot more in the tarball. I added my developement example and the surrounding developement environment directories. I also changed all filenames and function names which had a german base to english ones. No, not all of the comments are in english but I think the start point is a lot better now.

Thank you for supporting me :-)

Hi Matthias,

No problem, I am just following the hosting requirements and the GNU best practices as explained by more senior admins. I would have approved the project right now and let you correct the minor issue on the versioning system, but I would prefer to have someone else confirm my approval first. If Mario (and everyone else) is too busy, in about a week I will take responsibility and approve it.

Now for your questions. Documentation should be distributed along with the project; you could create a README at the top directory, and perhaps some manuals in a doc/ directory linked from the README. And by the way, everything should be under a license compatible with the GNU FDL.

As to comments being in German: English is better because it reaches more people. The same works for the project name: Nobody is going to blame you for choosing a name which is taken in another field! But a search-friendly name (not a common word, something original and not shared with a different project) is best and lets your possible users find you quickly.

This is all my personal opinion and you should take it as that.

Hi Alex,

please excuse all my mistakes, because it is my first submission on gnu savannah... So here we are - both novices :-)

I am sorry, you are right with the Makefile and the missing license section. I corrected this on the project files on my disk.

While the submission is going on I work on this project so the files are changing daily. I am not sure about a lot of things. How should I document the project? Should I add a link to the makers / distributers of the robot?

And I am sorry for most of the comments in the code beeing in german. This is because I am german. I rewrite the comments to english when I change anything but this may take a while...

So long - Matthias

PS: I will not change the name of the project until anyone will blame me for it.

Hi Matthias,

I will be reviewing your submission; please excuse any mistakes in the process as I'm a novice admin.

There is a little issue: the Makefile does not contain the license header, and it's a requirement for copyrighteable files (usually everything above 10 lines). This can be done after approval; but I would like some other admin to review the submission anyway.

About changing the name: do that if you feel there can be a name clash (unlikely), or if you want something more googleable and less distracting (more likely). I would do so if I felt the project could benefit from the change and there is not much effort involved, but this is completely personal advice.

After the submission I found this web site: beelib.com. That's an encylopedia about biologic terms. Not sure about changing the name of this project :-(

Registration Details

  • Name: Alternate library for NIBObee robot
  • System Name:  beelib
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: Modified BSD License

NIBObee is a small robot based on an ATmega16 microcontroller, two DC motors, some LEDs and bump-sensors, a line-sensor and so on. To get easily started with programming it there is a software library for use with avr-gcc applied.

This project is about writing an alternate library for programming this robot even more easy than with the original library. It supports an systemtimer based on 1 ms to run funcions at any time, bumper debouncing, running motors with constant speed, steering and a defined way.

It will support the line-sensor and an optional RC5-receiver for IR-remote controls.

It also supports advanced functions of the alternate microcontrollers ATmega 164 / 324 / 644 / 1284.

Other Software Required:

avr-gcc + GPL + http://gcc.gnu.org/
avr-libc + http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/LICENSE.txt + http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/
binutils-avr + GPL + http://www.gnu.org/software/binutils/
avrdude + GPL + http://www.nongnu.org/avrdude/
