Thank you.  I have installed this patch with some extra changes.  In particular, I made ‘C-u RET’ actually play the track after setting the backend.  I also beefed up the completion code.

Oh, and yes, that ‘C-u RET’ did intra-playlist-enqueuing was indeed a false statement.

I’ll close this task now.  Thank you for your work.

Yes, I think `C-u RET' is a good binding. I attached a patch.

There was an old comment in the doc string that C-u means intra-playlist-enqueue, but that seems to be a false statement. I removed the comment.

Some weeks ago, Daniel Jensen implemented the command ‘bongo-set-backend-for-track’, which completes the most important part of this task.  However, that command is not on any key.

In particular, the functionality is not available through ‘C-u RET’.  I still think this is a good binding.  What do others think?

The user should have a way to say “play this track using that backend.”  In other words, it should be possible to manually override the backend selection when playing a track.

I believe C-u RET is a good key for this.  That is currently occupied by the intra-playlist queue, but I think that should move anyway.  When the intra-playlist queue is generalized to support arbitrary long queues (currently, you can only queue a single track), the C-u RET interface will be too limited.

It would also be good to be able to specify that a track or a set of tracks should always be played with a given backend.  Maybe C-u RET should do this by default.  Tracks could default to playing with an ‘auto’ pseudo-backend, which would invoke the current automatic selection.  Then one could specify that to undo a previous C-u RET.
