I decided to host the project at a different place. You can cancel my submission. Thank you for spending the time to review Epichord for hosting on savannah.

May the source be with you.

The licensing of the doc files is a bit ambivalent.
A verbatim license file of GPLv2 is in that directory but no notice on the top of the actual files. This could be (mis)interpreted that the GPL is in there only for reference but does not apply to the docs.

Omitting a copyright and license notice is OK for trivial files, but we can expect the manual to grow over time. Therefore, it is recommended to give them an explicit license notice right away.

If the GPL "header" is too big/sophisticated for some file, this might be a good alternative:

I will change the README file so that it does not say linux.

I read and understand the GPLv2. From what I know of GPL3 (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/quick-guide-gplv3.html) it does not seem relevant to this project or provide any tangible advantages over the previous version. Like it says, both support the same spirit of free software and protect the four basic freedoms.

Hello,

most of the files in your current GIT look fine, I think.

The manual could need a few changes, though. For example, the first line says "linux" in a non kernel context and hence this should be changed to GNU/Linux.
http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html#why
I think for the same reason these terms should also be spelled with proper capitalization.

It also catches one's eye that the project is still licensed under the 17 year old GPL version 2+. This won't influence the approval process, but I wonder, is there a specific reason you haven't upgrade to the current version 3+ yet?

Registration Details

  • Name: Epichord
  • System Name:  epichord
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU General Public License v2 or later

Description:

Epichord is a midi sequencer. It has a JACK midi back-end and a FLTK2 front-end.

Drive your synthesis programs and midi devices with ease on a classical multi-track piano roll-style sequencer.

Other Software Required:

JACK - LGPL - http://jackaudio.org/files/docs/html/index.html
FLTK - LGPL - http://www.fltk.org/

Other Comments:

I drew the minor graphics myself. They are in GIF format because fltk2 only supports this in a convenient manner. PNG format is a future adjustment. Hopefully this does not affect the evaluation process.
