This seems to be the supposed fix in CVS (mentioned in bug 13163):

I've looked at the other files, which the OpenBSD patches adjust, but I've found no related changes.

But the changes look sane to me, so the devs should take a look at them and incorporate them, if they are OK.

Looks like some of (or may be all) patches from OpenBSD resolves this problem: http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/ports/games/crack-attack/patches/

Also, as I can see, first their patch also exists in CVS snapshot.

Clicking the window manager's 'x' from the start window does not exit the crack-attack binary.

Clicking the 'Quit' button from the gui does exit the binary...
