Remon, already posted a possible solution for this idea (punch in/out) in the forum.

For record on the fly, the procedure you suggest, would be the simplest and easiest to use, imho. Arm the track, set transport rolling, then hit a < key > and recording begins, hitting stop transport stops the recording. but if you added the  < key > as a toggle, then the user could start recording anywhere, and stop the recording without stopping transport. The user might want to record a section, go a bit further, record another section, while he has the same instrument/synth/airguitar still plugged in/selected/ etc...

A toggle punch in/out basically, anywhere the user chooses.

Any suggestions on how this feature should be exposed to the user via Traverso's GUI and soft selection interface?

Another related feature is to be able to arm a Track for recording and start recording on it at any time you want when transport is rolling, and the sheet is set recording active.

As in, hit the record button in the transport console, and start playback, or just CTRL + spacebar.
Now when arming a track, it'll start recording at the playback cursor position, and unarming the track/stopping transport will stop the recording.
