In pmon2k we both have:
karg = "console=tty root=/dev/hda1 no_auto_cmd"
but my Version = LM8089-1.3.6, his is LM8089-1.4.3. Don't know if this will turn out to be relevant.

args some-dummy-string /does/ load grub successfully.
args with no options /does not/ load grub successfully.

Strange. Does it display if you use:

args some-dummy-string

?

I removed "args console=tty no_auto_cmd" from boot.cfg, and grub no longer displays. I've left "machtype=8.9" out.

These aren't needed for GRUB. They're Linux parameters.

Same here.

Sounds fine. I recommend putting it in yeeloong-base.

I think it would be appropriate to have either grub-yeeloong or yeelong-base install a /boot/boot.cfg which silently loads grub2.

If added to a postinst script it would look something like this:
if ! [ -r /boot.cfg -o -r /boot/boot.cfg]; then
cat << "EOF" >> /boot/boot.cfg
default 0
timeout 0
showmenu 0

title Boot with GRUB2
kernel (wd0,0)/boot/grub.elf
args console=tty no_auto_cmd
EOF
args might need to include 'machtype=8.9'.

Robert: does this idea sound sane to you? If it does I'll provide a patch for the relevant package.
