Every time I've tested Chromium it worked. The only reason it is not officially supported and no bugs are fixed (although I worked on fixing some) is because of the license issues. [1] [2]

Tests done.  I can confirm that as of r326, this bug is fixed on the stable branch under all of Firefox 16.0.2, Chromium 22.0.1229.94, Midori 0.4.3, and Epiphany 3.6.0 (at least as shipped in Ubuntu 12.10).  Sweet!

BTW, I figured out why I was having so much trouble under Epiphany: it took me a while to figure out how to remove old userscripts, so I ended up with two different versions of LM installed and enabled simultaneously, and apparently that doesn't work well. ;)  Myself, I almost always use Chromium, but I wanted to test against at least some of the browsers listed at <http://linterna-magica.nongnu.org/#support> as officially supported.

My mistake. The fix relied on a function available only in trunk due to some optimisations there. I haven't actually tested the stable build as I assumed it should wok. Now it does. Can you please test again?

Epiphany is not my default browser for a long time (maybe a year), because of the constant crashing in the last versions in the 2.x series and some of the first ones in 3.x. I'm testing it from time to time, but I don't have the observations of a person using it constantly. I'm planning to return to Epiphany soon. Meanwhile please report any issues in separate bug reports related to Epiphany. I hope I will be able to fix them.

I can confirm that r323 seems to fix this bug in trunk (and, furthermore, I can confirm that it wasn't working before that revision).  However, the stable branch is still not working, even with the backport: it still looks exactly as it did in my previous screenshot.  (I tested with both Firefox 16.0.2 and Chromium 22.0.1229.94, but not Epiphany this time, as for some reason I'm having a lot of trouble with LM in Epiphany.)

I've implemented a fix in r323 in trunk. It is also merged back to the stable branch (0.0.12).

Please test the svn builds (stable or trunk) and report back. If there are no related issues, it will be released as 0.0.12-4.

Thanks.

It seems the code that fixes bug #35992 triggers when the HTML5 player shows a warning to install flash.

The bug occurs only when there is no flash plugin and HTML5 is with highest priority in the configuration. Because of the priority the Linterna Mágica interface stays blocked when the HTML5 interface is hidden to fix some displacement issues in bug #35992. The match is against a CSS class name, so this is probably the trigger for the code.

Can anyone confirm this warning without flash plugin and Linterna Magica? I'm already working on a fix anyway.

Hi,

From your report I got the impression that it might be the trunk version since there are interface changes there that look to what I thought you've described. These changes are yet not final, more work is to be done there and they might cause some glitches and bugs.

Yes you are running a stable version. I was able to observe something similar to what was reported with trunk, so it is not necessary unless you wish to try it.

Trunk is usually more up to date. Important changes are merged back to the stable releases, when a fix is needed, but trunk is not yet ready for a stable release. There are usually newer features in trunk. Trunk is considered unstable.

The current stable release base is 0.0.12 which was released in June. All other versions in the 0.0.12-x family have "minor" changes and fixes.

It must be a change in YouTube that triggers this.

Interesting -- it hadn't occurred to me to try it with a flash plugin enabled, as I had assumed that flash would only get in LM's way and cause problems.  I can confirm that when I enable a flash plugin (in my case, the proprietary one from Adobe), this bug disappears.

For reference, I've attached a screenshot of what I get when I load one of the problematic videos in chromium with LM enabled and flash disabled.  To be clear, there's no audio playing either, i.e. it definitely seems that the video isn't getting loaded at all.  Ivaylo Valkov, Anonymous, how does this compare to what you've seen?

In general, it seems this bug is triggered by those videos that are always presented with flash, even when the HTML5 trial is enabled.   The link I provided is an example of such a video -- or, at least, it appears that way to me. (Does this vary by location?  I'm in the northeastern U.S., FWIW.)

More examples of such videos include:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_AbfPXTKms
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qg1ckCkm8YI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVgkvaDHmto

BTW I don't think I'm running trunk -- I'm running the "stable" 0.0.12-3 script installed directly from >http://download-mirror.savannah.gnu.org/releases/linterna-magica/linternamagica-v0.0.12-3.user.js.html>.  Does it make sense for me to test again against trunk?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. I was able to kind of reproduce the bug in Epiphany without flash plugin and some random pages at YouTube.

For those other websites, probably the issue is that Linterna Mágica is unable to extract the clips from JavaScript. When there is a plugin installed, the object is inserted into the DOM and Linterna Mágica is able to detect it.

I'm still trying to figure it out.

I tested with Firefox on OP's link and here is what I found. If I enable flash plugin (totem-vegas) LM works just fine. If I disable it, then there is no video, not even a black box. Just LM's side panel appears. So it appears that some kind of flash plugin needs to be installed for LM to work (it happens in a few other sites as well, e.g ted tv, dailymotion).

Hi,

I am unable to reproduce this. The provided link loads with the HTML5 player both in Abrowser/Firefox and Epiphany. Even when I switch off html5 support in YouTube (http://youtube.com/html5).

The release in the bug report is set to 0.0.12-3 in the bug report, but by you explanation I think you are using the trunk version. Could you specify which version you are using?

Please provide the browser name and version and more links where the bug can be reproduced.

Thanks!

When visiting Youtube videos that are not presented with the HTML5 player (e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1VCgs9AUn8), LM shows me nothing but a black box with the LM logo in the top right corner.  The logo has a tooltip that claims I can click on it to switch between "the HTML5 player" and LM, but clicking it has no visible effect.

When I fool around with the browser's debugging tools, I notice that there's a #movie_player-html5 <div> and a #linterna-magica-0 <div>, both contained in a #watch-player <div> and both having the "display: none" style set on them.  If I remove the "display: none" style on the #movie_player-html5 div, the usual LM video display then shows up and plays the video as expected.

I can reproduce this bug on Chromium 22.0.1229.94, Firefox 16.0.1, and Epiphany 3.6.0 (at least as they are packaged in Ubuntu 12.10).
