The autotools machinery that determines the availability of the Kerberos 5 development headers / libraries assumes that KRB5_CFLAGS will be non-empty if (and only if) the Kerberos headers are installed. This fails when the headers are installed to /usr/include, since pkg-config (or the AC_KERBEROS macro) correctly realizes that it doesn't need to set that variable.
