at least 3 Bugs have this topic:
#48981, #52317, and this one. Maybe there is a good reason to enable usermounts.

I think you are not right. Every user can mount a filesystem via fuse (e.g. sshfs). Putting every sshfs/webdav filesystem in fstab is just horror.
I think you should take a look at sshfs what they have as restrictions, to prevent bad actions e.g. like setuid, setgid, or special files.

I vote too for dropping this restriction!

An entry in fstab is not just a restriction that allows the administrator to control who is mounting what. If you mount some WebDAV-resource regularly then an entry in fstab makes mounting easy and comfortable. Just typing "mount xyz" on command line or one or two clicks on desktop system are enough to mount.

I think what you request is not a very important feature. Of course it would also require additional restrictions to make it secure. Maybe at some time in the future I will to it.

I don't understand why davfs for normal users is limited on having an entry in etc/fstab
Many other filesystems based on fuse don't need root access to operate. There are some gvfs implementations that don't need root access to work, but they are not accessable for find/grep, ...

It would be great if this restriction can be dropped somehow.
