Why not fix the broken cache?

HTTP caches are in heavy use for about 25 years no. A software with a bug like this should not be deployed.

I have a broken cache server. When it receives a GET request for a file, and the its cached copy is expired but valid, it forwards a 304 (NOT MODFIED) response code from its upstream WebDAV server back to its client. If davfs2 is the client, it incorrectly assumes the 304 has the requested file attached as the body of the response. It reads an empty response and assumes the requested file is empty. The user ends up with an empty file in the davfs2 mount.

This isn't a bug in davfs, per se, but it does provide a bad user experience. Would it be possible for davfs2 to not generate the file and write an error message to the syslog daemon indicating what happened?
