ok, few things.
a note on that last comment - if the website suggests it there is nothing we can do. we certainly shouldn't try to rewrite websites to change them to point elseware from the authors intention.

secondly, i've added galeon to the nonfree.needsclean blacklist in bzr 138 file until we have it reliably freed.

Note: changing the PFS url can still allow redirection to Adobe's Flash Player for those pages with:

 <embed ... pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer" />.

See http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ for example.

kinepolis.com was the only website with Flash content that came to mind and visiting it again has reminded me of why it should die in a fire: it sucks in almost every way imaginable. It loads the Flash component (and practically everything else) via javascript, which could explain the different popup behaviour (and different content for the same URL).

I did get the popup window and tab with adobe.com with iclg.com. I didn't try changing firefox.js (yet).

I am not able to have the popup window for the site you mentionned [1]. But [2] and [3] gave me the same results as yours.

I tried [4] and got the popup window. If I click on the puzzle of [4], I have the popup window too. I then clicked the 'OK' button and this opened a background tab with url [5].

Given the url [5] ('fr'), and the fact that [1] doesn't give the same results for us two, there could be a localization parameter playing a role there.

[2] http://www.kinepolis.com/js/AS3/history.htm?application/x-shockwave-flash

I tried this on my Yeeloong. When I visit [1] I also get the popup window. When I click OK Galeon opens a new tab to [2], showing a puzzle icon and the same window pops up again. When I click OK again it opens another tab, this time to [3]. And it goes on like that. If I click Cancel and click on the puzzle icon it pops up the window again. At no point does it show me the Adobe website.

Could you say in more detail how to reproduce this?

This problem comes from the mozilla Plugin Finder Service (PFS).

In xulrunner source code, under 'browser/app/profile/firefox.js':

 l. 486 |// plugin finder service url
 l. 487 |pref("pfs.datasource.url", "https://pfs.mozilla.org/plugins/PluginFinderService.php?mimetype=%PLUGIN_MIMETYPE%&appID=%APP_ID%&appVersion=%APP_VERSION%&clientOS=%CLIENT_OS%&chromeLocale=%CHROME_LOCALE%&appRelease=%APP_RELEASE%");

This should be changed to:

 l. 486 |// plugin finder service url
 l. 487 |pref("pfs.datasource.url", "http://gnuzilla.gnu.org/plugins/PluginFinderService.php?mimetype=%PLUGIN_MIMETYPE%&appID=%APP_ID%&appVersion=%APP_VERSION%&clientOS=%CLIENT_OS%&chromeLocale=%CHROME_LOCALE%&appRelease=%APP_RELEASE%");

The latter leading to gnash instead of Adobe flashplayer (see http://gnuzilla.gnu.org/plugins/PluginFinderService.php?mimetype=application/x-shockwave-flash&appID={ec8030f7-c20a-464f-9b0e-13a3a9e97384}&appVersion=2007032403&clientOS=Windowsxp&chromeLocale=en-US).

More information on mozilla PFS can be found on https://wiki.mozilla.org/PFS.

The message itself comes from xulrunner in 'modules/plugin/default/unix/nullplugin.h'.

In galeon 2.0.6 web browser, when a web page contains flash content, a popup window shows up with the following message:

"This page contains information of type (application/x-shockwave-flash) that can only be viewed with the appropriate Plug-in.

Click OK to download Plugin."

A click on "OK" directly goes on "download flashplayer" page of Adobe website.
