The packages are official GNU packages and they have the GNU part before the name. These are their official names AFAIK. There might be other implementations.

It seems I am able to play the Blip.tv link in the 3.6.16 and 11.0 versions of Firefox and forks with Linterna Mágica. The extracted HD links on my side are fine. I can download the webm clip with wget, but my link differs in exactly one character. There is no k infront of the 110225 part. Please submit a separate bug report for every bug or website issue. This will improve maintainability and response time. Thanks.

On Blip.tv I can't even download the video: http://blip.tv/framatube/110225-conf-e-moglen-navigating-the-age-of-democratized-media-5815072

Linterna Magica says it's buffering and nothing is happening (see screenshot)

Right clic on the top icon download a silly link: Potatono-OOPViews677.mp4 that's 37kb

which has nothing to with the link that you can copy from the contextual menu http://blip.tv/file/get/Framasoft-k110225ConfEMoglenNavigatingTheAgeOfDemocratizedMedia669.webm

Yet wget -c http://blip.tv/file/get/Framasoft-k110225ConfEMoglenNavigatingTheAgeOfDemocratizedMedia669.webm

returns "Not Found"

The required packages for building are listed in the documentation.//

Yes, though adding GNU in front of each package may be confusing for newbies.

To me it wasn't obvious that ls,cp were part of the coreutils package. But I knew they weren't packages.

But yes the documentation is very clear that you need those tools.

Newbies may not try SVN though someone who isn't a GNU/Linux newbie may want to try SVN, just like me. In other words, someone can be a SVN newbie though not quite a GNU/Linux newbie :-)

I'll go on trying other websites this week…

Building from svn is not mandatory. The svn daily builds [1] in the downloads area are meant for newbies. ;) As Savannah mirrors are updated at 24 hour intervals the direct link should be used for downloads to ensure that the latest revision will be used. Daily builds are automatically compiled at 00:30 EEST/EET and manually just after I commit important fixes in trunk or the stable svn branch.

You are right about the svn command. It is nowhere documented, as building from svn is rare for most users and doing so it is highly possible that the user already knows what svn is and what should be installed. I might add few words on that.

Installing by hand is not recommended. Though, I do it for convenience too. I can't comment on the issue you had, because I don't know what exactly happened. I always try to explicitly overwrite the file already installed instead of just coping in the directory, so I do not end up with two or more copies of Linterna Mágica running at the same time, if at all possible.

The required packages for building are listed in the documentation. [2] Are you saying that it is not clear that the tool ls (and others) from the GNU Coreutils package is needed?

The compiled userscript is executable just for notification (for terminals with colors) and as a joke/hack. :) It is not required for anything.

I think recent Greasemonkey versions are handling capital letters and accents.

ls -l ~/.mozilla/firefox/snpf02v0.default/gm_scripts/Linterna_Mágica/
total 236
-rw-r----- 1 user group 241417 Apr  2 11:13 linternamagica.user.js

Thanks for testing. Please, report any issues with this fix. I guess next week if stable enough it will be merged to the stable branch and new bug-fix release will be available.

I started again, removed ..gm_scripts/linterna_magica and installed the linternamagica.user.js script from the browser Crtl-O.

This makes a ..gm_scripts/Linterna_Magica
So perhaps if you make a dir with capital L and capital M, you can copy the script and it will be active in Firefox.

The permission for linternamagica.user.js are: rw-r

If I go to the ..gm_scripts/Linterna_Magica folder with the file manager PCManFM, I can't see linternamagica.user.js

If I use the terminal ls -la, I can. So part of the mystery's solved.

Many thanks, Ivaylo for the svn. It works fine on youtube movies. I tested the Potemkine film. I'm going to test it as much as I can.

Perhaps, you could add a few things in the documentation on SVN for SVN newbies:

You should clearly state that make, for instance is a package but ls, for instance is a tool included in a package (so basic that is probably included in any distros)

Most of us will need to install package svn — otherwise we can't execute:
  svn co svn://svn.savannah.nongnu.org/linterna-magica/trunk linterna-magica-trunk

The command make did the job. As I'm running Firefox Beta, I copied the file linternamagica.user.js to ./mozilla/firefox/xxx.defaut/gm_scripts/linterna_magica

In Firefox, the script didn't appear in > Extensions > Userscript.

Yet, the file linternamagica.user.js is executable.

So I tried installing the script from the browser. I opened the
linternamagica.user.js (Ctrl+O), the install box appeared, and the installation went fine.

Linterna Magica works yet the folder ./mozilla/firefox/xxx.defaut/gm_scripts/linterna_magica is empty.

This is pure Magic. Perhaps the script is read from the linterna-magica-trunk folder?

So I'm going to start the installation into Firefox again.

Working code in trunk revision 266. Works with all browsers. Same revision optimizes loading in YouTube. Commit also fixes the overlapping of HTML5 player and Linterna Magica. The svn build on the website have the new code.

The interface is displaced for clips that YouTube displays as unavailable for unknown reasons. The clips play with Linterna Mágica. A CSS fix is needed.
