I configured the bloglines applet with
./configure --prefix=/usr
in order for the applet to appear as an option when I right click on my panel, and click "Add to panel".
Trying to add it the panel this way though causes the following error message to pop up:

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:BloglinesApplet". Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration?

On further investigation it turns out that the file /usr/lib/bonobo/servers/GNOME_bloglines_applet.server contains the line:
location="/usr/local/libexec/bloglines_applet"
This should be pointing at /usr/libexec/bloglines_applet instead.
