The advantage of overriding the usersfile would be that any existing applications could use it, by replacing a file with a URL. A more generic API could introduced from advanced options if needed, but the generality of the usersfile allows for extensions as is.	Nikos Mavrogiannopoulos <nmav>

Perhaps there is need for more generic APIs here that can deal with any kind of backend (file, HSM, etc). Thanks.	Simon Josefsson <jas>

Having seen however various HSMs like YubiHSM and oath_authenticate_usersfile(), it seems straightforward to extend the oath_authenticate_usersfile() to support HSMs. The API is high level allowing to specify a userfile (which could be a URL similarly to PKCS #11 URLs), and thus could accommodate for more than just files. That would greatly extend the value of this library for server applications.	Nikos Mavrogiannopoulos <nmav>
