If your version is 1.5.5 or older then this is probably bug #56286.

You can work araound this problem by using "mount -i" for unmounting. This will avoid the call to umount.davfs (but not show when synchronising is done).

Alternatively you can try to install a newer version of davfs2. The version from Debian testing may work on Ubuntu. You can of course compile the lasted version from the download page.

Additional remark:
Your file system is mounted by user dan. dan can unmount without root privileges. You should not use sudo in this case (if only to avoid the bad habit of working with more privileges than necessary).

Summary says it all: in Kubuntu 20.04 and 20.10 as well as KDE Neon 5.20, unmounting a dav volume returns immediately with no error and no indication that anything failed.

dan@dan-lappy:~$ mount
--snip-- on /home/dan/owncloud type fuse (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=1000,allow_other,max_read=16384,uid=1000,gid=1000,user=dan,helper=davfs)

dan@dan-lappy:~$ sudo umount /home/dan/owncloud

dan@dan-lappy:~$ mount
--snip-- on /home/dan/owncloud type fuse (rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=1000,allow_other,max_read=16384,uid=1000,gid=1000,user=dan,helper=davfs)
