Hi Ineiev,

I see you're continuing to work on this.  Thanks!

There's a typo in some of the new page text for adminning the repo.

> Don't provide links to snashot tarballs

...should be "snapshot".

Aha.  I didn't think to look there.  I don't quite see how to make it work, but I'll dig more into cgit documentation to see if I can figure it out.

As a minor point, I see that on the tag list, the column heading is still "Download" even if tarballs are disabled; commit IDs are listed instead, which is okay, but there are also truncated even though there is plenty of room to render them in full.

But that's cosmetic, and the issue I reported has been resolved.  Please feel free to close.

Thanks again for a swift and effective resolution!

Cgit documentation says,

repo.readme::
A path (relative to <repo.path>) which specifies a file to include
verbatim as the "About" page for this repo. Default value: none.

Thanks, Ineiev--I've used the interface and will see if/how the changes manifest in half an hour or so.

Can you add some explanation for the "README file" option to the web controls?  Where does this appear?  If there is a "README" file in the root of master branch, is it even necessary for a repository administrator to set this field?

I've added some controls, please try https://savannah.gnu.org/git/admin/?group=groff

The settings still propagate to the Cgit instance twice an hour.

I agree that it would be useful if people could configure such things, and cgit does have handles to do that per-repository; however, our current infrastructure has no means to pull them.

Meanwhile, you could mention in your documentation that the instructions are provided for cloned repositories rather than cgit snapshots; that would help, anyway, in cases when people get such snapshots from independent git mirrors.

The groff project has recurring problems with people trying to use the .tar.gz files that cgit so obligingly generates links to all over the place.

This would be fine, but (1) groff uses the "git submodule" feature to incorporate gnulib and (2) there are many files in a distribution archive that are not present in the repository.

Our users keep getting into trouble, thinking (reasonably) that they can follow one of the two sets of instructions we have for building groff (INSTALL.repo or INSTALL.extra), but because of the submodule issue, neither actually works for these cgit-generated archives.

It would be nice to have a per-project configuration knob that we could use to keep cgit from advertising these archives.

Examples of trouble:
