It turned out that CVS_RSH="ssh" was missing prior to the cvs command.

Is it possible to update the text at "Project Member CVS Access via SSH" to

CVS_RSH="ssh" cvs -z3 -d:ext:rockdaboot@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/wget co wget

?

Thanks for looking into it. But the problem persists even on a DSL line from a different provider.

I now tried with a fixed IP - so maybe you can see my try in the logs. It was ~11:00 UTC from IP 85.183.2.64.

Thanks for the report.  However this appears to have been a transient failure.  I just ran through all of the regression tests as well as your specific case.  All appears to be working normally at this time.

Among the reasons there might be problems for you at any given time is that a router in between might be suffering an overload and dropping packets.  This seems most likely since you could ping, a very lightweight protocol, but couldn't ssh, a heavier protocol.  As well as many other Internet weather related problems.

I am fortunate to have multiple systems on different networks.  When I run into these types of problems I use alternate network sources to test against.  Sometimes I find that one will work when another does not.  Asymmetry routes.  Unfortunately somewhat common at times.

Since everything appears to be okay I am going to close the ticket.  But please update the ticket with your replies.  If it still is out for you then that is definitely not expected.  If you have further problems please keep reporting them.

I just experience timeouts on cvs.savannah.gnu.org:

$ cvs -z3 -d:ext:rockdaboot@cvs.savannah.gnu.org:/web/wget co wget
cvs.savannah.gnu.org: Connection timed out
cvs [checkout aborted]: end of file from server (consult above messages if any)

Ping works.
