RFC 2181 section 10.1. CNAME resource records states that a CNAME in this case is not valid.

Still ZoneCheck's errror message is very misleading.

AFNIC Zonecheck returned an error about SOA while there is one.

Using tinydns: i configured a domain with following records:

an SOA record
two NS records
two MX records

i tested with AFNIC zonechek -> SUCCESS

i added a CNAME record (and checked more than once that is correct)
A dnsq or dig request is correctly answered for it.

BUT zonecheck returns a fatal error:
No SOA record for the domain (translated from french)

This error has nothing to do with the CNAME record, SOA is still there and valid.
I think it is a zonecheck bug. I did that kind of configuration many times before and all zone checks were ok.

Note: if i replace CNAME record by a A record, test is successful.
