It's possible that there is something running waiting orders behind, because if you make a "ctrl + d" the launch finish is run.

And better if you choose restart just after it finish is run at the login time, and choose recovery a new time, the recovery mode works from the start point to the end point.

Happy gNew Year of Freedoms !

So there appears to be a working prompt, it's just hidden behind the blinking cursor. If I type commands
I see and hear that there's disk activity. As Aurele said, if you type 'startx' then X starts, which warns
that it's running as root. Clicking Quit brings you to a normal root prompt at the console.

On the fresh last information, I test again the recovery mode, it seems it have the same trouble, but, if you try at the prompt moment a : startx ... It finish the recovery mode.

When I choose "gNewSense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.26-libre2-2-686 (recovery mode)" in GRUB, the system starts booting but hangs before the boot process is completed. I first get a boot splash with boot messages. When it gets to "Setting up ALSA..." the progress bar stops and no more messages appear, but there's still some disc activity. Then the screen goes black with just a blinking cursor in the upper left corner (no prompt). This doesn't change when I press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
