In the documentation (part of next release) about selecting files to backup, also also pointed to option writeExcludeLog. Maybe this also helps you.

Hi Heinz-Josef,

Ah, ok!

I'm curious about the include / exclude documentation.

storeBackup is a very cool program and now with the correct understanding and configuration satisfying my demands. Thank you for this great piece of software!

Hi Achim,

rules only match on files only, never on directories. Therefore the directory structure is not affected if you use rules. The functions MARC_DIR and MARC_DIR_REC can be used to match all files in directories. This allows to setup (very) special behavior (or simply not to save them).

As already told, I will write a special section in the documentation about different ways to include / exclude directories / files. The information now is spread over the documentation (or maybe somethings missing) which makes it difficult to use the different options in a useful way.

Hope storebackup will now satisfy your demands.

Heinz-Josef

Hi Heinz-Josef,

now it seems to work with:

- two different backups
- two different configs
- two different series
- exceptDirs
- includeRule & MARC_DIR_REC

Partially ok:
- exceptRule & MARC_DIR_REC

But all (and only) directories under the excepted source DIR will be created at the backupDirectory.

I had no success with:

- includeDir
For 2nd level subdirs under the sourceDir (sourecDir/Folder/subfolder_to_include) only the empty subfolder_to_include was created. No exceptDir oder -Rule was activated.

Thank you for writing such a great program!

Hi Heinz-Josef,

Thanks for the thread!

I'll try to use a combination of
- followLinks
- two different backups with different keepAll
- includeDirs or includeRule (MARK_DIR / MARK_DIR_REC sounds great!)
- the same autarkic backup to changeable drives

Thanks and regards, Achim

Hi,

it seems that the documentation about includeDir etc. isn't in a good state :-/ .
Maybe it helps to have a look at this thread:
http://savannah.nongnu.org/support/?108466
I think, using followLinks is the most comfortable way to select the directories to backup (maybe in combination with exceptDirs).

If you want to generate two different backups, start storeBackup.pl twice with different options / configuration files.

If you want to have the same backup twice (on different devices), use replication.

Hi Heinz-Josef,

Thanks for your fast answer!

Yes, the backupDir is only a mounted target regardless the device behind it.

> - The resulting backup always is a full backup.

Ok, this sounds good and this is what I expected.

Perhaps I've had an error in my last backup:

- I backed up the new sourceDir/Folder1 to backupDir on mounted HDD1 successfully.
- I changed HDD1 to HDD2 (same mount point)
- I backed up only sourceDir/Folder1/subfolder1 to backupDir on mounted HDD2. For that I used "includeDirs", but no
- The created Folder1 was empty, "subfolder1" and it's files were missing
- Only folder1 was listed in ".md5CheckSums.bz2"

- exceptDirs were empty
- Folder1 is a linked folder
- followLinks=1

I tried again w/o "includeDirs" and the result is quite good. I'll play again with "includeDirs" and a debug log and see what is happening.

Hi,

to be honest, I don't get what you want to do.

Maybe some details help:
- storeBackup does not handle internal or external disks. It just copies file to filesystem which have to be mounted (if affected) when storeBackup programs are running. StoreBackup doesn't know anything about internal or external.
- The resulting backup always is a full backup. This may be the result of (storeBackup.pl) or the combination of (storeBackup.pl and storeBackupUpdateBackup.pl).
Creating a replication means running (storeBackup.pl --lateLinks) plus storeBackupUpdateBackup.pl on the master backup plus running storeBackupUpdateBackup.pl on the replication backup(s).

Maybe you can precise what you want to do!?

Hi all,

first of all: Great program for saving backup disk space!

Some few master backups are finished quite good. Now I want to manage the following scenario:

- I want to use only external target disks
- Only one (1) disk is available in the (1) mobile rack
- The other disk(s) (one at the moment) is/are kept outside
- All target disks should have a full backup independent from the other backup disk(s)

Replication http://www.nongnu.org/storebackup/en/node56.html seems to require both a local accessible masterBackup and the backupCopy to do the job.

How can I realize this task? Do I need to set up two independent storeBackup jobs with different sourceDirs and backupDirs to get a separation?

Thanks and best regards, Achim
