Just in case you still have this problem, I had the same problem running Fedora Core 3, which is quite similar to red hat 9, and I installed this rpm:

once at the site, just click download (it's a little hard to see, but it's there)

Hope this helps if you haven't been helped already.

Thank you, Kai, for the information. I'm pretty sure the
solutions you've listed should cover any possible problems I
have and may have yet. I just wanted to express how much I
appreciate the speedy and thorough response because I've
only had linux for like 2 weeks now and I really get
frustrated with it because sometimes it seems like the
simplest things are so hard to do, but I guess I should just
read this 900 page SAMS Red Hat Linux 9 Unleashed from front
to back instead of trying to pick out things when I run
across them without really understanding the mechanics. But
I'm just lazy.

So, I'll follow up and let you know if I get a successful

Thanks again,

To check whether it is installed, you could use the following command:

find /usr/lib -name "libpython2.2.*" -print

That will show whether the library has been installed. If it's not there,
then please try again to install it. You may also try to use

instead of the file below. That one is reported to work.

If the files are there, an adonthell still fails to install, you might have to
run 'ldconfig' first (as root) to update your system's library cache.

As a last option, you can get the package to install by using the --
nodeps option. I.e.

rpm -i --nodeps adonthell-0.3.3.rpm

If all required libraries are there, it should work fine
afterwards, even if the package manager thinks it doesn't.

Hope that helps!

I seemed to have had the same problem as celso, but I
downloaded the libypython rpm that the link pointed to and I
installed it. It went really quick, and I'm not even sure
if it is installed... I'm really new to Linux. And then I
tried to install the adonthell rpm again, but I still got
the error that it couldn't find the libypython file. Any
other suggestions. It's quite possible that I just have no
clue what I'm doing also.

Tue 08 Jul 2003 01:49:44 PM UTC, comment #1: seems to be missing from RH9. They only
deliver the static lib which is of no use.

However, you should be fine with using the one that comes with
Mandrake. Get the rpm here or check for other

I hope that helps!
