I just tested the latest SVN (rev. 327) and the video with the space works. Many thanks.

Spaces are escaped in URLs in trunk and the stable branch. The fix is available in the SVN builds. It seems that my version of GStreamer/Totem is also able to play RTMP stream when the URL is quoted or the spaces escaped.

It should be working, but please test and report back.

This fix together with the one for bug #37630 will be released as 0.0.12-4 next week.

I'm with Trisquel 5.5. I was just looking for Gecko Media Player PPA, but this might also work. Thanks!

If you are using Trisquel 4 you can try adding the GStreamer PPA which adds WebM support to Totem (and probably also adds RTMP support if your version doesn't support it). Installation instructions appear here:

Hm, my Totem and GStreamer versions are older. This is great news. I should probably try to extract all RTMP URLs as well. The ones that are getting extracted are probably matched against the known extensions (mp4, flv etc.), but not all have them.

The test of Gecko Media Player was to prove that the URL works as it is, if it does not load with Totem. It is not that big a deal.

I'll escape the URLs then.

Thanks!

Gecko Media Player doesn't work in Midori unfortunately. ROSA Media Player is another MPlayer based plugin that does work in Midori but it is buggy (causes the browser to crash) so I prefer not to test it.

Totem plays RTMP streams just fine and has no problem playing the URL I posted when I replace the space by %20 (and in fact I can watch many videos on ynet using Linterna Mágica, Gnash, Totem plugin and Midori as long as there is no space in the RTMP URL).

I also have rtmpdump and MPlayer installed.

Tested with Totem version 3.4.3 on Parabola GNU/Linux.

The GStreamer version as reported by Totem is 0.10.36.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. As far as I know Totem can't handle RTMP streams. There are two free software packages that I am aware of that can play RTMP - rtmpdump and MPlayer (1.0rc4 and above).

Could you test if the streams are playable with Totem outside the browser and report back? If you succeed, please report the Totem version as well.

If I quote the URL, MPlayer is able to handle it. I'm guessing the issue is with the lack of support for RTMP in Totem, not the raw URL.

Being based on MPlayer, the Gecko Media Player (gecko-mediaplayer) browser plugin should be able to handle those URLs.

Could you also test that?

If it is really needed I'll escape the strings.

Thanks!

Some videos that I watch on the Hebrew ynet website have spaces in their RTMP URL and thus do not play via Linterna Mágica with Totem plugin. They work fine in an external player (e.g. SMPlayer) when replacing the space by %20.

Such a video can be found here:

http://www.ynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-4300367,00.html

The link is provided when using Linterna Mágica with Gnash using Midori browser (with user agent Safari). I got this URL:

rtmp://cp100692.edgefcs.net/ondemand/mp4:hd/1012/0111122200_Nexus 4_768Kbps_360p.mp4

Replacing the space by %20 gives a URL I can play with an external player:

rtmp://cp100692.edgefcs.net/ondemand/mp4:hd/1012/0111122200_Nexus%204_768Kbps_360p.mp4

It would be better to be able to play the video using Linterna Mágica.
