Please set option "debug secrets" in your davfs2.conf file. After trying to mount the file system one of your log files will show messages from mount.davfs. You can control wether davfs2 got the username and the password correctly.

If the credentials shown in the log files are not correct then this might be coused by doing some shell escaping at the prompt, which you should not do.

You should next try to enter the credentials in the secrets file. Please read "man davfs2.conf", "man mount.davfs" and the comment in the secrets file.

If the credentials as you see them in the log file are correct then there is probably some problem with the server. Maybe your credentials contain some non-ascii characters and the character set used on the client is different from that used by the server. Using utf8 on the client side should usually work. If not you may choose an different password.

Some additional hints:

  • Don't use option "username" this way. This option is only for use with pam-mount. Put the username in the secrets file.
  • You can avoid the error message concerning the self signed certificate by using option "trust_server_cert".

Read "man davfs2.conf" as well as the comments in the davfs2.conf and the secrets file for details.

Hi,

I am using davfs2/1.4.7+neon/0.29.3, and I have installed it in linux. Whenever I try to connect a windows IIS server I am getting rejected Basic challenge.
Earlier I was getting NTLM challenge error, but I removed the windows authentication and added the Basic authentication. The NTLM error gone but the Basic challenge error is coming constantly but the same is working find in linux. Can you help me here? Yes, the certificate is self signed.

# mount -t davfs https://myfileshare.com/fileshare /tmp -o username=user1
Password: password
/sbin/mount.davfs: the server certificate does not match the server name
/sbin/mount.davfs: the server certificate is not trusted
issuer: .....
subject: .....
identity: .....
fingerprint: .....
You only should accept this certificate, if you can
verify the fingerprint! The server might be faked
or there might be a man-in-the-middle-attack.
Accept certificate for this session? [y,N] y
/sbin/mount.davfs: Mounting failed.
Could not authenticate to server: rejected Basic challenge
