It is mostly normal behaviour. But you can improve the situation for your use case.

davfs2 is single threaded. Because of this uploads will block the file system interface. davfs2 tries to upload when the file system interface is idle, but this is not always possible. If the amount of cached files is growing davfs2 will have to upload some of them.

What you can do:

  • Use option "cache_size" to increase the size of the cache so it can hold all of your files. This should reduce the number of uploads while you are still writing to the davfs2 file system. But it probably will not stop all of them.
  • Increase the value of "delay_upload". It is by default 10 seconds. You may increase it to a value greater than the time needed to copy all the files into the cache.

Please use "man davfs2.conf" for details.

When I copy files to my webdav mounted folder, my file manager thunar copies 520 files (~11Go) to this folder.

davfs2 uploads these files. Each time a file is send to the webdav server, thunar can copy one other file to the mounted folder.

I have always 520 files in the cache until there is less than 520 files to copy (the size of the cache changes a bit but not the the number of files).

It is not a bug and the transfer is done at the end. But the problem is I have the thunar window with the transfer always present. I cannot close and put in sleep my computer without canceling this thunar transfer.

I would rather prefer that thunar copies all files to the mounted folder. In this case, even if I shutdown my computer, the transfer will start again when I mount the webdav server.

1- Is it the normal behavior?
2- If yes, is it possible to change it to have all files in davfs2 cache.

P-S : I have plenty of space both in the server and in my computer.
