For security reasons proxy must not be configured in the user config file but only in the system wide configuration file.

When you build davfs2 yourself than the system wide config file is probably /usr/local/etc/davfs2/davfs2.conf, depending on how you configured the package. The manpage for mount.davfs has a list of files.

Besides the option use_proxy you also need the option proxy to tell davfs2 the name of the proxy. The environment variable will not work for unpriviledged users for the same securtiy reason that disallow proxy entries in the user config file.

If it still does not work please send both config files. You may aditionally set option "debug config". Your log files will show whether davfs2 correctly understood your configuration.

Hi, i've built and installed the release 1.5.6 of davfs2 on my Kubuntu 19.10.
If i use the root user to mount the dav share, the global configuration setting use_proxy seems to work perfectly.
If i use my lower priviledged user it seems like the proxy is not called, instead it throws a could not resolve hostname (which is okay since the proxy takes care of that).

The use_proxy setting in the user config throwes an unknown configuration option error but i guess thats how it should be since there is "# system wide config file only" noted behind that option.

Is there any way to debug that a little bit deeper? or am i doing something wrong here?

Thanks!
